"This class was one of the best I've ever had!  The instructors are incredibly knowledgeable in AC and DC theory, safety per OSHA, installation and calculations per NEC.  Great!"  -PV Course Student

PV400 is an intensive 48 hour on-site workshop covering the specific skills and components required by large PV solar installations. This workshop explores system design, installation, commissioning, operation, troubleshooting and maintenance issues for utility-scale solar modules, PV arrays, trackers, inverters and mounting systems. Utility-scale trainees will install and commission a large commercial grid-tied PV system and will leave the course prepared for the NABCEP Entry Level Exam.

Learning Objectives
This utility-scale workshop is based on NABCEP (the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners) Task Analysis and Learning Objectives.  Click here to download NABCEP’s Learning Objectives.

Training modules include the following:

  • Introduction to Utility-Scale and Large Commercial PV Systems
  • Utility-Scale Case Study
  • Solar Energy Fundamentals
  • Conducting a Utility-Scale Solar Site Survey and Assessment
  • Utility-Scale Modules and Arrays
  • PV Module and Array Temperature Calculations
  • Utility-Scale Safety
  • Utility-Scale Electrical System Design
  • Batteries
  • Charge Controllers
  • Utility-Scale Inverters

Hats, sunblock, and appropriate clothing for the weather are recommended.

Prerequisite
Before participating in PV400, you are required to complete our online Pre-Work Module. Our Pre-Work Module allows time to cover more information during the on-site workshop. You will receive access to our online material after registration, and we will send you the textbook in advance to use with the Pre-Work Module.

Price includes the following:

    • Textbook Photovoltaic Systems from American Technical Publishers, Copyright 2010 by National Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee for the Electrical Industry (NJATC). (Note: The textbook is sent to you in advance upon registration to use with the Pre-Work Module.)
    • Supplemental Material and Workbook compiled by ImagineSolar
    • CD-ROM of solar resource material

After successfully completing ImagineSolar’s PV400 workshop, you will be eligible to sit for the NABCEP Entry Level Exam. ImagineSolar and NABCEP recommend an additional 80-120 hours of self study or additional solar PV courses prior to sitting for the Entry Level Exam.

When you are ready, you can either take the exam with ImagineSolar or at any of the many Prometric exam centers across the USA. Contact NABCEP for details of the requirements and recommendations for sitting for exams.

ImagineSolar proctors the NABCEP Entry Level Exam approximately once a month.  Please contact us for information.
