Though still state incentive-free in Texas, the demand for renewable energy training remains strong. Since 2004, Austin Community College (ACC) has offered NABCEP’s Entry Level Certificate of Knowledge program to sold-out audiences.
Originally supported by the State Energy Conservation Office and taught by ImagineSolar’s John Hoffner and Michael Kuhn, the classes are offered three times/year. Because the classes were so successful, ACC now offers an advanced PV course and a two-year associate degree program.
ACC recently applied for ISPQ accreditation, and instructor Michael Kuhn, has applied for ISPQ Master Trainer status.
The first offering of a new workshop for entry-level to electricians and engineers in the art and science of solar power system design and installation will take place March 16-20, 2009 at the NJATC Electrical Training Center in Austin, Texas. The workshop, Photovoltaic System Design & Installation, will consist of 40 hours of classroom and hands on activities, including a grid tied installation.
The workshop will address the task analysis as provided by the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners for their entry-level certificate of knowledge as well as advancing into the professional-level task analysis. Taking 40 hours of training will decrease the experience requirements necessary to become a certified solar installer.
Also, the ImagineSolar team will showcase the award-winning Solaris Team Solar Car from the Dell-Winston School Solar Car Challenge.
